The Recipe (Serves 6):
- 2 cups diced onion
- 2 cups seeded and finely chopped green bell pepper
- Olive oil to sauté
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 pounds ground beef or ground round
- 1 tin tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1/2 cup chopped green olives
- 1/3 cup raisins
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Sauté onion and green pepper in olive oil in a large casserole dish.
- Sauté about 5 minutes, until the onion is softened, then add the garlic and ground beef.
- Mash the onion and green pepper into the sautéing meat and cook until the meat is browned, about 5 minutes.
- Add the tomatoes, cumin, cinnamon, cloves, oregano, olives and raisins.
- Cover and let simmer in the crockpot for an hour or two or more. The longer it simmers, the better the flavour, and it’s also great warmed up later as the flavours intensify.
- Salt and pepper to taste.
That looks delicious :) I'm always on the lookout for new recipes for mince! Unfortunately I don't have the time/organisation to participate in this particular challenge.
ReplyDeleteAmazing! I want some please!
ReplyDeleteI too was amazed when I first made it Brenda but it's becoming a staple here. It's all in the slow cooking I think - not a dish to be rushed.
ReplyDeleteBrenda this looks DELISH!

Very interesting combination with the spices, green olives and raisins. Great tip regarding the long slow cooking time. What a great challenge!
ReplyDeleteThank you George Laura and Maria .

That looks delicious, granny!
ReplyDeleteThat looks very good Brenda. Might give that a go, as the weather here is getting colder. What would you serve it with? Mash, pasta or rice?

I put it in the crockpot this morning, and had it for dinner tonight - delish! Forgot the flipping raisins though (I always forget something!) Never mind, it's an excuse to make it again soon :)
ReplyDeleteThat Picadillo looks delicious! I'm totally addicted to Tex-Mex food!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
